Sharon says withdrawal won't result in Palestinian state Describes Israeli plan to pull back in Gaza, West Bank

JERUSALEM -- A unilateral Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Stripand four West Bank settlements could delay Palestinian dreams ofstatehood for many years, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Monday.

Israel also is no longer bound by a pledge to the United Statesnot to harm Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Sharon said. The WhiteHouse said killing Arafat was "not part of the solution to thesituation in the Middle East."
