NSW: Iraqi comm to celebrate end of Saddam at rallies today
The Iraqi community in Australia will celebrate the demise of SADDAM HUSSEIN at tworallies in Sydney today.
The Organisation for Human Rights in Iraq is organising one rally in central Sydney.
The group calls itself a non-sectarian Sydney-based group which aims to expose theIraqi regime and the plight of the Iraqi people.
Association chairman Dr MOHAMMED ALSALAMI says the rally will be an opportunity forall Iraqis to express their happiness at the toppling of the dictator.
Dr ALSALAMI acknowledges there's a range of opinions within the Iraqi community asto whether it's appropriate to celebrate, particularly following the assassination onThursday night of a Shi'ite Muslim cleric in Iraq.
But he says he doesn't believe there's anything wrong with celebrating the end of the regime.
The celebrations will begin at midday (AEST) at the St James end of Hyde Park.
A second rally in the Sydney suburb of Auburn rally will begin at 1pm at Railway Parkon Rawson Street.
