Fed: Holiday road toll hits 63

An horrific crash in Queensland that killed three members of a family, and deaths in
almost every other state and territory, have pushed the national Christmas-New Year road
toll to 63.

A 32-year-old mother and two of her young children, a boy and a girl believed to be
aged six and two, died when their van rolled on the Bruce Highway shortly after 7am (AEST).

The accident happened near Gladstone, 500km north of Brisbane.

The woman's 33-year-old husband and her two other children, a boy aged five and a one-year-old
girl were injured and taken to Gladstone Hospital.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman described the crash as horrifying and said
attending officers have received counselling.

Deaths have also been recorded in New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia
and the Northern Territory.





Since December the 19th, 19 people have died on NSW roads, 13 in Victoria, 14 in Queensland,
four in Western Australia, seven in South Australia, and three each in Tasmania and the
Northern Territory.

The Australian Capital Territory remains fatality free.
